Day 10: September 24, 2024 (The Highlands)
(by Amelia & Sofia)
This morning started with packing, again.. but at least in a more organized fashion (for most of us). We had the luxury of being picked up right at our doorstep by two friendly Scotsmen driving busses. The idea was that the class would be evenly divided into the two vehicles, but we ended up with one being absolutely packed and the other giving each person their own double seat. We got to choose our own travel playlist, each person writing down their favourite songs. Shoutout to “Discover Scotland Tours”
On our tour we took a bit of a detour, which added five hours to our travel time, but we used that time to look at fascinating landscapes and saw a surprisingly large amount of Harry Potter film locations.
The first stretch of road led us to a pretty but very cold beach, where Rebecca had to retrieve a tennis ball out of sea for a not so water loving dog. We quickly moved on to other locations. Some of them only two minutes further down the road than the last.
At lunchtime we went to Glencoe and had the pleasure to meet the lovely highland cows, but don’t worry we already had lunch prepared. Tourist traps sure do work, because at least 2/3 of the class bought something at the giftshop. Especially the highland cow plushies were popular, we adopted three new members to the class:)
Back in the tour bus, while driving through the lovely highlands, our tour guide encouraged us to hike through Scotland because it is something everyone should have done in their life at least once.
Towards the end of the trip, we made two last stops. One at the Loch Lomond Lake, which is apparently the largest sweet water reservoir of GB and one at a cemetery, where we saw a real Viking grave which dates back to the 12th century.
When we finally arrived in Glasgow, everyone was tired and hungry and anxiously awaiting the Thai dinner to come. We were met with friendly staff and fast service which didn’t make us look for our waists, like in a certain previous restaurant we visited.
Happily digesting our Thai food.
Xoxo Goodnight!
